The young man in the photo above is Matt Belmont a singer - songwriter busking in Leeds city centre. Matt is stood in front of Debenhams dept store adjacent to Briggate, Leeds.
There were several buskers in Leeds on this Saturday 2 May and by chance I chatted to a couple of street wardens from Leeds city council about buskers and the council is considering issuing licences to buskers. This is already a requirement in some other towns and cities. I think the idea is to improve standards.
Matt Belmont would I think have no problem because he can sing and play the guitar very well. I liked his music and so did a couple of girls not far from me, I think they liked him a lot!
You can hear Matt Belmont at the HiFi Club in Leeds, where he performs regularly.

That does actually sound like a good idea, I have heard some buskers that really shouldn't be allowed to go near a musical instrument! And if he performs regularly on a club I'm sure he is very good.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the busker! It must be spring indeed!
ReplyDeleteLooks like he is giving it his all.
ReplyDeletewhen we were in Leeds the other week we saw a woman selling balloons on Brigatte and later we saw two community police officers talking to her about the need for a license.
ReplyDeleteWell! I can understand why girls would like him :) It helps that he can strum this guitar well, too.

interesting.
ReplyDeleteMusicians don't require permits here. They just do it wherever, whenever.
You think they'd have to audition to get a permit?
Heh well done Paul for giving these guys some publicity. They're often very talented and dedicated to their music. Leeds must be a better place for their presence.
