This week the Mini is 50 years old, the little car designed by Sir Alec Issigonis was originally badged as the Austin Mini Seven or Morris Mini Minor. No longer in production the Mini was a 60's style icon and classless. Steve McQueen owned one as did Enzo Ferrari.
These days they are nowhere near as common on the road as they once were. 5,387,862 Mini cars had been manufactured before production ceased in 2000. I saw this one parked in Saltaire, Yorkshire early one evening and photographed it. The angle is a bit off because the car was parked in front of a large tree and I did not want to stand in the road to take the photo.
I never have driven a mini, several friends have had them over the years and I have been a passenger many times.

My neighbour is a mini fanatic. He had one just like in your photo, but it was written off in an accident. So all the members of the club he's in, put together and bought him another. A silver one this time. it's got lots of decals and stickers on it and he loves it.
ReplyDeleteI know of a fellow hwo has two minis, iported from your country to here. Rather strange to shift with the left hand. THe Mini Cooper is a big sell. If not for the price, I'd like to get one, red of course for Manchester United. ;)
ReplyDeleteI like the colorful paint on this one, especially the flag on the roof!
ReplyDeletePerfect post for the Jubilee! I tried to find one like this but all I saw was the modern mini :(
ReplyDeleteI have always found the Mini cute and pretty, but was never inclined to buy one. Don't know why.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comment. Come back tomorrow for more of the Keukenhof series!

Great little car, very iconic and much more authentic than the current one, which is also nice, but more like a "midi".
