The above photo shows a shop in the Grand Arcade, Leeds UpStaged sells Retro, Vintage and Theatrical fashions.
If you want to make a statement and stand out from the crowd then this is the shop for you. You can shop here in person or online in their virtual store.
Its funny, until a month ago I had virtually forgotten about burlesque, but this last couple of weeks I have come across it 3 times in Leeds. The second time in this shop when I was chatting to the owner about what her shop is about. Burlesque is really taking off in Leeds, I have been invited to a show and yes there will be pictures!! Also I bumped into 2 young women from a show in the street doing some promo, pictures from which will be coming up soon.

Whilst I was chatting to the owner the above young woman came into the store and we discussed retro for a little while. I asked if she might be photographed for the Leeds photo daily and as you can see she said yes. So this is Lauren, I may not know much about fashion but I thought her boots were great. Lauren knows a lot about pop festivals.

I like it when you muster up enough courage to ask a total stranger, "May I take your picture?" I have a problem with it myself. It is because I am related to President Lincoln and my folks gave me his name. So from day one, kids especially, but adults too, have laughed at me when they learned my name. It was a tough time growing up and the US Army was worse. Almost all my commanding officers and sergeant majors thought I was "black" until they actually saw me. Those were the days when the Army was segregated. Anyway, I think this inferiority complex is now in my genes. I hate to ask for anything if I have to tell my name.
ReplyDeleteI am in envy of your burlesque renaissance. Not for the girly shows but for the jokes and skits that go with burlesque. And, the fashion conscious must get a huge lift when looking at duds from the shows. There is a blog that I have seen which shows one person each day, photographed on the street, in the wildest fashions I have ever seen.
Thanks for visiting my blog. I do appreciate it.
