Everything Must Go - Gone

Borders Bookshop Leeds Closed

Borders Bookshop on Briggate in Leeds city centre closed for the final time just before Christmas.

Once the company went into administration it was I think just a matter of time. As a book lover I was disappointed that it came to the end of the road.

Buying books online is OK but you really cannot get a feel of how nice a book is by looking at the cover. Yes we still have Waterstones books but is one bookshop enough for a city like Leeds. I do not know, but I do think that niche shops still have a place in our towns and cities. A book is not like a cauliflower, but the supermarkets here think that they are the same.

I am a bit late with this partly because the snow took my attention, but I spoke with someone yesterday to whom this was news.

  1. Sad - it was a lovely shop to browse in (and I did buy things there!) I don't think Waterstone's has the same atmosphere.

Thanks so much for visiting my Leeds in Yorkshire photography blog
and for your much appreciated comments. If you leave a question relating to today's photograph or commentary, I'll do my best to give an answer, so do come back later. Thanks.
