Dragonfly

DragonflyPicture of a dragonfly in Leeds.

Its funny I live out close to the river Aire and also the Leeds - Liverpool canal and I had been trying to get a photo of a dragonfly for some time and by chance I saw one in Leeds city centre.

I was down by the Leeds city bus station on Friday and a dragonfly flew past me so I followed it and it landed on a bush by the coach slip road. Of all the places I would image being able to get a photograph of a dragonfly Leeds city centre would not have been high on the list.

  4. That is an amazing capture! Both a lovely photo of a difficult-to-capture creature, and a happy accident that you got it in the city centre, of all places.

  5. At the little goldfish pond at my parents' allotment, we often see dragonflies, but I am never quick enough to get the camera in time to take a picture of any of them.

  7. Hello Paul, great pic, what you've photographed is actually a male Banded Demoiselle damselfly. There are a lot of them on and around the Leeds stretch of the canal & River Aire. If you're interested in finding some dragonflies & damselflies to photograph I highly recommend Rodley Nature Reserve dragonfly ponds http://www.rodleynaturereserve.org/
the reserve is open Saturday, Sunday & Wednesday.

  8. I was out chasing a Damselfly a couple of days ago. They can be tricky to shoot sometimes.
