Picture of peacock butterflies on a buddleia flower in Yorkshire. This summer has been pretty miserable, with damp and overcast skies on many days and today it started out bright and sunny at least until it rained.
There was at least in my day one rather nice high point, I was visiting a catholic church a little way outside Leeds and as I was leaving I noticed in the garden there was a buddleia with several peacock butterflies flying around it.
I mentioned this later to someone I was chatting with and he said that so far this year he had yet to notice any butterflies on the buddleia in his garden. I missed the Big Butterfly Count this year having only rarely seen the odd one here and there.
I took the above photograph of these peacock butterflies this afternoon.

They are lovely - I've never seen them. Perfect photo!
ReplyDeleteYou could not have asked for a more beautiful photo. They are gorgeous butterflies!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! (I was going to say "gorgeous," but LondonLulu stole my thunder.) I just read an article that mentioned butterfly wing "eyes" might have evolved to frighten predators away.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I often see butterflies but am never quick enough with my camera, by the time I am ready, they are long gone... My parents used to have a big buddleia on their allotment, but it sufferend an illnes last winter, and this year, only a small part of it remains. It will grow back eventually, and then it will once again be a magnet for butterflies!
