Picture of St Gemma's Hospice charity shop in Yeadon, Leeds. This charity shop in Yeadon High Street is run by St Gemma's Hospice here in Leeds.
St Gemma's Hospice in on the Harrogate Road in Moortown, founded in 1978 by the Sisters of the Cross & Passion on the site of St Gemma's school which they had previously run.
Personally I like the idea of local charity shops like this one, they help to raise much need funds towards the around £8 million that St Gemma's needs to operate each year. I took this photo after I had gone inside and bought a DVD of the French TV series Engrenages, which I saw on a shelf, this having been kindly donated by someone.
I deliberately widened the photo to allow room for the sign for the branch of the Yorkshire Bank next door.

The colours sure are eye catching.
ReplyDeleteThis is something I quite miss about living in the UK, we don't see these local charity shops quite as frequently. Before the move to Princeton, we donated items to several shops - they were run by some lovely people.
ReplyDeleteI do like the colour of Yorkshire stone and it's an interesting contrast with the vivid purple here. Charity shops have long been a favourite place of mine, from an ethical point of view plus the odd (in both senses!)bargains to be had.
