Picture of Harehills cemetery Leeds
towards the end of the afternoon on Friday I walked around a small part of the cemetery at Harehills here in Leeds.
Harehills cemetery is one of two cemeteries in this part of Leeds the other being Beckett Street cemetery.
The cemetery at Harehills is adjacent to Harehills Park and I think at one time you could walk from one to the other but now there is no access due to a fence with no gates.
The day like many recently was very overcast and dull and I thought it would rain but it held off. There was a time when I more or less gave up taking photographs on very dull days but now I do but give more thought to them. The above photograph taken by me as part of my ongoing pictures of Leeds project for this blog was nothing to write home about so I gave it an aged sepia look.
One of the reasons I visited the cemetery at Harehills was because there are quite a few, 324 in number, war graves here. Many of these war graves are marked with a Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) Portland stone headstone. I served in the military and my grandfather volunteered and traveled from Ireland to the hell that was the Western Front in what later became known as the Great War.

I love what you did with this photo. I struggle with dull days, but should make more effort as you do. I like that someone thought to mark the war graves, a poignant sight and it must have a special resonance... To think there was another world war only a few decades after the Great War.
