Roundhay Park Lake

Lake Roundhay Park LeedsPicture of lake at Roundhay Park Leeds

This is the Waterloo Lake the larger of the two lakes at Roundhay park, Leed.  Constructed by former soldiers who had become unemployed since returning from the Napoleonic Wars, the lake was named after the Battle of Waterloo.

It took two years to convert the site that was once a quarry into the lake, it cover 33 acres and is around 60 feet deep.  Originally used for boating, Waterloo lake is now used for fishing.  White Rose Canoe Club and Leeds Rowing club use the lake.

This photo I took on Friday last when the day turned out quite nice as I write this it is raining outsite and the sky is mostly grey cloud.

  2. It's a very tranquil looking scene, and no doubt a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city too.

  4. How lucky you get two lakes in just the one park in Leeds! I like the story of its construction too, a great piece of history that doesn't often get told.

  5. Digging a lake sounds like really hard work.
